What Should I Expect?
Therapy sounds scary! What will this process be like?
What should I expect to happen during our initial consultation?
At your first therapy session, your therapist will spend time getting to know you, asking questions about things like your personal and family history, and reviewing your reasons for seeking therapy. You and your therapist will also go over practice policies and create a treatment plan that focuses on your personal and mental health goals. You will also have the opportunity to ask your therapist any questions you might have about the therapeutic process, easing any anxieties you may have about the experience overall.
How long do appointments last, and how often do I have to come?
The standard therapy session lasts for 55 minutes. Appointments are typically held once per week, or every other week, depending on your specific needs and availability. Regular attendance is recommended.
How long will I have to be in therapy?
Therapy is not "one size fits all," and therefore there is not a definitive answer. Length of treatment depends on you, your goals, and your overall commitment to your personal growth. You and your therapist will frequently check in on your progress and growth and update your treatment plan as needed. Ideally, therapy ends when you and your therapist both agree that your goals have been met.
